MGM Resorts and Grant a Gift Autism Foundation-Ackerman Center launched a joint initiative to provide a vocational job placement program with a $1m pledge to be made.
Under the terms of the program, individuals with autism will be able to have the training and MGM employment opportunities.
The entertainment operator said in a media release that national data had shown that most autistic adults were unemployed or underemployed and experienced substantial challenges in attaining competitive employment opportunities. The program will help ensure that teens and adults with autism are provided the support necessary to gain meaningful employment.
According to the deal, GGAF will provide clients with a 12-week vocational readiness training program, where they are expected to learn “pivotal vocational skills and have access to parent empowerment training and other family services”. When training is completed, the participants concerned will be able to apply for vacant MGM Resorts positions that meet specific program requirements.
After getting a job, new employees will be able to seek on-site coaching through GGAF to make sure they fully understand their new roles above and beyond traditional employee onboarding.
CEO of MGM Resorts Bill Hornbuckle noted that as the largest private employer in Nevada, they had a responsibility to contribute to their community’s social and economic progress, including creating pathways to employment. Hornbuckle added that their vision for embracing humanity aligned with the incredible work of GGAF as they worked to improve the lives of adults with autism in Southern Nevada.
The first hiring event was held by the MGM Resorts’ talent acquisition team at the GGAF Ackerman Center in late July, and, as part of the new program, it extended employment offers to the first group of employees.
MGM Resorts has been partnering with GGAF for an extended period, with MGM providing volunteers and job placement support as well as cash contributions.
